VIDEO: 8 Dogs from Alabama Shelter Need Homes
Eight beautiful dogs, all with a difficult past that will never be known; all with a future that depends on you.
Courtney Palmer has her hands full, but you will hear no complaints from this Animal Care and Adoption Counselor at Humane Society for Greater Nashua.
Eight new dogs have just arrived from a large shelter in Shelby, Alabama, where they were warehoused. They are now ready for adoption.
"They will stay here until they find a home, no matter how long it takes," Palmer said, having a moment with Domino, a frisky lab-mix. "Sooner or later the right family will come."

Domino is just one of the many dogs available right now for adoption. Coming from the shelter in Alabama, where there were upwards of 5,000 stray or unwanted animals being housed, these eight dogs are still adjusting to daily attention and first-class care.
Their fate in Alabama would have been less hopeful.

"Honestly, Domino just wants attention. Once he finds the right family, he'll be one happy dog," Palmer said.
Most of the dogs have their quirks, but the shelter takes time to evaluate each and every one. Although the state requires a 48-hour waiting period before they can be placed for adoption once received in a New Hampshire shelter, the Humane Society of Greater Nashua extends that time limit by one more day, just to give the animals a little more time to settle in.
"They're better socialized with other dogs than with humans, given the way they've been housed," said Noelle, Schuyler, the shelter's event and outreach coordinator.
Schuyler points out one of the dogs, Angel, a beautiful tawny-colored girl who is painfully shy.
"She will need time to feel at ease. She's been through something," said Schuyler, who tells the only part of Angel's story that's known.
"She came into the Alabama shelter with milk, but no puppies. We don't know know what happened to them, but someone brought a litter of four rat terrier puppies into the shelter around the same time. They were only about a week-and-a-half old, with no mother. Angel was able to nurse them. She literally saved their lives," said Schuyler. Those puppies were placed through the Nashua shelter within the past few weeks.
"Now, she just needs to find the right family for her."
