No More Taxpayer Funding of Planned Parenthood

'Taxpayers should not be forced to fund any non-profit capable of funding itself.'

I read with interest a Jan. 22 letter in the Concord Monitor questioning what the funding of Planned Parenthood has to do with the economy ("What happened to that economic focus," Sunday Monitor, Jan. 22). The answer? Quite a bit, actually.

Any time taxpayer money is involved, it is a matter of the economy. The clear message has been that the majority of taxpayers do not want any of their money to go toward abortions – neither directly nor indirectly through overhead and administrative costs.

More to the point, in these difficult economic times when we have been forced to deeply cut budgets, the taxpayers should not be forced to fund any "nonprofit" organization that's capable of funding itself.

In 2009, Planned Parenthood reported a profit of $21.7 million. In 2010 it reported a profit of $5.6 million. It claims economic hardship has forced it to turn away patients in need of prescriptions, yet its CEO last year made three times the salary of our governor.

The organization also spent nearly $700,000 on public affairs, over $151,000 on lobbying legislators and almost $450,000 on "improving its branding." It even had enough money to transfer more than $200,000 over to its political action committee. I'd say unnecessary taxpayer funding is very much correlated to the economy.

Dear Sir,
You make me sick. Your smarmy smile and talk of saving money on the backs of women and the poor - while you hand cash to cigarette companies...

There is no logic to this, the outcome will be more unwanted pregnancies by women who can't afford to house and feed the children they have now. The outcome will be more women who will wait to see a doctor until its too late, or much more expensive. More women will have to go farther to find someone willing to save their life when a pregnancy goes wrong. And the state will wind up paying for this one way or another.

One the backs of women and the poor, you smile. You make me sick.

I think it only matters when they can use it... good grief - I am so sick of the liars, cheats, and thieves. I can't wait to see them gone.

It is a valid point if the organization they lead gets direct taxpayer dollars. If they are a for-profit company, why do they need subsidies?

Most people in our country didn't want Barry's healthcare. We elected in 2010 all those obstructionists for a reason. As B O said elections have consequences. All you Liberals should wake up to the fact we are all going bankrupt. No law could ever make birth control free! Like all you Liberals that is just plain STUPID!!!!!

"It's a valid point if the organization they lead gets direct taxpayer dollars".
Alright. I am glad to see you agree with the occupy movement when they
complain about the outrageous bonuses the bankers are getting after receiving
hundreds of billions of tax payer dollars.

"If they are a for profit company, why do they need subsidies?"
I'm also happy to see you agree with President Obama that subsidies to the oil companies that are making record profits. should be stopped. It's equaly nice to see you disagree with the G.O.P who blocked the legislation to end them.
Be careful when you set ground rules! Oops!
