Family Escapes Car Fire on Amherst Street

After a loud noise from a 2007 Lexus, the car caught fire, according to fire officials.

A car erupted in flames while a family was driving along Amherst Street on April 29.

Nashua Deputy Fire Chief Karl Gerhard said preliminary investigation points to some sort of mechanical failure in the 2007 Lexus hybrid.

"A man and his wife and daughter were driving down Amherst Street when they heard a loud bang and fire erupted underneath the vehicle. They pulled in to the Birch Pond Office Park and exited the vehicle," Gerhard said.

Patch reader Melinda Rose Smith happened to pass by as the car was fully engulfed in flames in the parking lot of Hesser College, 410 Amherst St., and stopped to take photos, which she submitted here.

Gerhard did not immediately know the names of the car owner and referred questions to Nashua Police.
