NHGOP Turns Up Voter ID Heat

The state Republican Party is keeping the heat on proposed voter ID legislation a week after conservative activist James O'Keefe infiltrated New Hampshire Primary polls with phony voters to ask for ballots of recently deceased people.
The Republican State Committee's executive committee has adopted a resolution that sounds like a pre-emptive attack on any Democrat who may oppose a proposed voter ID bill in New Hampshire. Wayne MacDonald, state Republican Party chairman, said in a press release:
"Voters should be outraged by the recent reports of voter fraud in New Hampshire, and the action taken by the NH GOP reflects the frustration many people across our state are feeling. It’s a shame that Governor Lynch and Democrats in the legislature have insisted that no problem exists and in the past have opposed efforts that would strengthen our laws. More than thirty states, both blue and red, already have voter ID requirements on the books and, given our First-in-the-Nation Primary role, we should too. We must do all that we can to stamp out voter fraud while ensuring that voters get to fairly exercise one of their most fundamental rights. Protecting the integrity of our elections is fundamental to our democracy.”
New Hampshire is one of 19 states without voter ID as a requirement for qualified residents to receive a ballot. The state Legislature passed a voter ID bill last year, but Gov. John Lynch, a Democrat, vetoed it. In his veto message in June 2011, Lynch said there is no voter fraud problem in New Hampshire.
An earlier version of that 2011 bill won over some Democrats. The 2012 effort picks up steam when a voter ID bill gets a hearing Jan. 24. Some Democrats have argued that a voter ID requirement would deter some voters, particularly low-income and minority voters. Republicans calling for a voter ID law counter that ID is required for some otherwise routine life matters, such as picking up prescriptions at the pharmacy, driving and boarding a plane.

Why can't vote rs use the same ID they used to Register to vote at the clerks office....at the polls....how does this discriminate?

because the Republican-led attack on our voting rights are demanding a "government issued picture ID' at the polls.
Kevin - you as a Rep - and a Republican - I for one thank you for making this issue more clear to people.
here's a far better solution, when registering you are given a voting ID with your picture on it -
when every voter has this ID - then the rules can be changed to ID required

"The U.S. Capitol Police said they arrested at least four men at the protest, one for allegedly assaulting a police officer and three for allegedly crossing a police line. Two protesters were handcuffed after stepping on to a sidewalk that police were trying to keep off-limits. Another man was arrested later near the Supreme Court steps."
Imagine if this kind of police action happened while angry middle-aged white men spit on black legislators entering the Capital!!!!

Or if you'd accept my meager description, they are trying to keep in the public eye the issues that the banking crisis brought up....

The problem, Thomas, is you take an event and then associate it with someone or something you hate in your mind. There doesn't have to be connection because you will manufacture one, if need be. This is what the Right is all about; get you good and scared about any old issue and let the fantasizing commence. You are now conditioned to do this, and you won't need any prompting.
All you have to do is watch Fox tomorrow. The recipe is simple. They will report on some news event and quickly following up with a pundit blaming Obama for something. They do this hour after hour, day after day, until the brainwashing is complete.
People are scared, and they want a quick fix. The cold, harsh reality of it is, the problems we have now were created over decades. Decades. I'm going to say it one more time- decades. No one president created it, and no one president will be able to fix it. You cannot "elect-a-president" your way out of this mess. It's going to take a coordinated effort from a very special group of people to fix this.
You got to ask yourself, do you want to be on the side of fear and loathing, or do you want to be part of the solution? The folks at Occupy are the messenger, not the problem. The problem existed long before they took to pitching tents.

Mr Forthepeople, I just reread your post on Mr Patten. What changed between that post and what you just wrote. Democrats judge democrats one way and republicans another. This is also true with VoterID. Democrats because Progressive/Liberalism attracts fewer and fewer people need new recruits. You wish to point out every negative about the republican position on it. You also do not dare touch the real reason democrats want no part of VoterID. You are afraid to lose more votes. I quite frankly do not blame you for that fear.

You are more than welcome to quote anything I said about Dick. I'm interested to know the part you find objectionable; the part where I mention that crime and punishment may be in order, or the part where I mention withholding judgment until we know all the facts? I may find him to be an excellent representative, but if he broke the law, I don't see why there shouldn't be a ruling. There is not a single spot in any of those posts where I suggest special rules for him.
As I often say on this board, let's get some references, let's get some quotations, let's do some actual discussion beyond the fantasies in your mind.
In regards to voter identification, I'm the kind of person that stands up for everyone. You know that guy who steps in against bullies, the guy who makes sure the change of a dollar is correct, the guy who drops in money in guitar cases… that's me. I can tell you now, I have no idea who folks without ID are voting for, and nor is that my concern. I'm a better person than that. But it's clear that folks who want to disenfranchise others are not, and that's why I'm here.
