Unconscious Man Pulled From Sinking Kayak

The man, whose name was not released, was 'still alive' when rescuers reached him.

UPDATE: 2:45p.m.: An unconscious man spotted floating in the Nashua River in a half-submerged kayak was rescued by crews from Nashua and Hudson fire departments Monday.

Hudson Fire Chief Todd Hansen said his fire department received multiple calls from people who spotted the man in the kayak from both sides of the river at about 1:30 p.m. on April 15..

"Several people were outside based on the nice weather today and we have many houses in Hudson  that abut the river," Hansen said. We got multiple calls, as did Nashua Fire."

When rescuers reached the man in the kayak he was unconscious but breathing, Hansen said.

"When we dropped him off at the hospital he was still alive and breathing," Hansen said.

Although fire officials did not release the name of the man, Hansen said they know his identity.

More information may become available, Hansen said, and will be released once a report is completed.

Original story begins 2:15 p.m.: Reports are coming in of a water rescue in progress in the Nashua River between Hudson and Nashua. @NHFireAlarm Tweeted about 1:30 p.m. that a canoe was reported floating down the river with an "unconscious occupant."

A follow-up Tweet by @NEIncidents reported that rescuers "had victim out of water and were transporting to shore."
