The Truth About Benghazi is Unforgiveable

Columnist says the father of Navy Seal Tyrone Woods deserves answers.

People who were on the ground, present at the U.S. Consulate in Libya and at the CIA Annex about a mile away, are talking to Jennifer Griffin, one of the most well-respected reporters at the Pentagon, about what happened on the night of September 11th, and it is worse than any of us could have imagined.

The CIA operatives on the ground asked for help – three times – and three times they were denied. The attack that began at about 9:40 p.m. at the Consulate was recorded and transmitted real time back to Washington where it was available at CIA headquarters, the Pentagon and the White House Situation Room.

Tyrone Woods, former Navy Seal and a member of the small team at the CIA Annex, eventually ignored orders to “stand down” and joined two others who went to the Consulate and led the survivors, still under attack, to the safety of the Annex. By then, Ambassador Stevens was already missing and one American was killed. The attack then moved to the Annex where, by the end of the night, Woods and former Navy Seal Glen Doherty were also dead.

As the article lays out in excrutiatingly painful detail, Washington knew what was happening, as it happened. The opportunity to respond and save their lives was ignored. Our American heroes were begging for help and turned down three times. Four Americans ended up dead and the President, the Secretary of State, the Ambassador to the UN, and every member of the administration who responded to these horrific events has lied. Whether or not they all knew they were repeating a lie is debatable. Whether or not the President should have known is not.

We have just one Commander-in-Chief. It is beyond belief that a decision as to whether or not to send in the military would have been made without conferring with the President. What happened on September 11th is horrific; the attacks, the murders, the ignored pleas for help. What happened on September 12th and every day since, as the President and his administration continue to lie to the American people, is corrupt, despicable and unforgivable.

Charles Woods, father of Navy Seal Tyrone Woods, wants to know who made the decision not to at least try to save his son.  Mr. Woods deserves an answer, and so do the American people.

Seriously Charles Hatch? This is how you see this? What is wrong with you? So because the story comes out that the consulate was denied help, it's a Republican political ploy? Wow! How sad a comment is that? What is so hard about admitting that the administration made a mistake? Or do you think this is Bush's fault too?

Three facts remain unchallenged truths:
1) We had planes an hour away.
2 The attack went on for 7 hours.
3) No planes took part in the attack.
Therefore it is obvious that Obama's claim that the government "work[ed] to mobilize all available assets and move them into the region as quickly as possible" is a falsehood.

From your link...

"CIA spokeswoman Jennifer Youngblood, though, denied the claims that requests for support were turned down.
"We can say with confidence that the Agency reacted quickly to aid our colleagues during that terrible evening in Benghazi," she said. "Moreover, no one at any level in the CIA told anybody not to help those in need; claims to the contrary are simply inaccurate. In fact, it is important to remember how many lives were saved by courageous Americans who put their own safety at risk that night-and that some of those selfless Americans gave their lives in the effort to rescue their comrades." "

Jennifer, you can't even give us the whole story, just the part you like...

Shame on you again.

Jan, Shame on YOU. I included the link with the obvious intention that anyone would be able to read the entire story. What you fail to include is that the claims from the CIA spox are in response to the claims made by the sources on which the story is based. These sources were described on tonight's news as being "impeccable." Jennifer Griffin is respected across the spectrum of journalists for her long career at the Pentagon and reporting on exactly this type of story - she is considered one of the best.

This story is not now and has not ever been about an election. This keeps me awake at night. Can you imagine being under attack and calling for help from resources that you know to be accessible and be told repeatedly, "no"? What if this was one of your brothers or sons?

No matter what happened or who is ultimately responsible, we have a right to the truth. We all need to step back from the elections and evaluate this story through an impartial lens. Here is the email sent to the WH just two hours after the attacks began, while they were still underway, telling the administration that an al-qaeda linked terrorist group had claimed responsibility for the attacks (http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/24/us/libya-benghazi-e-mails/index.html). And still we were subject to the stupid youtbube video lie for three weeks.

You don't have to respond - I will not engage in a back and forth. I just hope that everyone, regardless of party, will try to bring some objectivity to this.

And I don't think anyone really believes you care about the folks in Libya. It appears to be just a way for you to criticize the president at their expense. You are a professional right wing personality.

I don't want a back and forth,I want the use of this tragedy to stop until the facts, all the facts, are in.

After 911 the country was asked to come together.... Why is this different?

Jan, why do you consider reporting the news as attacking the President? And as you say "wait for the facts". Tell us, who will conduct the investigation? Isn't one of the responsibilities of the press, aka the "fourth estate" to root out the facts? Do you think the administration will conduct an un biased investigation? Remember Fast and Furious, this administration hid behind executive privilege.

Show me some legitimately unbiased news from the UK or other countries who have no ties to either U.S. political party and maybe I'll be impressed.

Of course its about politics. We are about to elect the leader of the free world in less then 2 weeks and it appears the current leader of the free world froze when the 3am phone call came. The President and his party who were proudly proclaiming at the DNC in August that they killed Bin Laden, decimated Al Qeuda and, by doing so, proves they are tough on terrorism and deserve to be re-elected. They claim the Arab Spring would bring new democracies to North Africa and that they have restored US prestige in the world. The President and Secretary of State froze when their leadership was needed most. Then they, the administrtion, politicised the whole event by claiming it was a movie. Shame on them.

David, it has been widely reported that Bin Laden was under surveillance for many weeks. Thus giving the President a long time to make a decision. As the administration has claimed in the Libya terrorist attack it was a "spontaneous" uprising. Since it was "spontaneous" the President and his administration are expected to make immediate decisions. The reports are the President went to bed while the ambassador was missing for 7 hours and the attack lasted for over 7 hours. A US military base in Irtaly is 2 hours away. The President then jetted off to Las Vegas for a fundraiser without meeting with his security council. So, when a crucial and immediate decision was necessary either he froze, or made the wrong decision to do nothing.

http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/26/panetta-on-benghazi-attack-could-not-put-forces-at-risk/?iref=allsearch

"At a Pentagon news briefing, Panetta said there was no "real-time information" to be able to act on, even though the U.S. military was prepared to do so."
"

The official could not reveal the specific reaction times for the military's Fleet Anti Terrorism Security Teams, which are classified, but said "it would be physically impossible for them to get there in time to intervene in that attack from say, Rota, Spain."
""these situations normally deteriorate over time ... but usually in a few days, not two hours.""

Along with even more information showing that after being notified of the attack, they were not able to get information in time before it was over. Also, no mention of Obama! None.

Before anyone, on either side of this politically motivated, incendiary, nonsensical exchange blows a gasket, ask yourself this: What EXACTLY would YOU have done on 9/11/12 or, for that matter, on 9/11/01, if you had been SecState, POTUS, or head of CIA. Hindsight is wonderfully instructive, and should absolutely inform our future, but inane finger-pointing by either supporters or opponents of POTUS, just because you're a supporter or opponent of that particular person, serves no productive purpose. We mourn those we lost, as we do all who make the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country, and we commit to their families that the ARB now underway should clarify what happened, so it won't happen again. And we resolve as a country to continue to support and promote freedom around the world, understanding that it is a messy, deadly and expensive task, in both American lives and treasure, and the lives and treasure of countries around the world.

Sounds black & white doesn't it? Oh, some terrorists attacked a shanty called a low security consulate (have you seen the pics of that place? My backyard shed is more secure than that building) and a few americans die in the attack after asking for 'help'? It's obvious it was a well planned attack, including the fact the terrorists used that Islam film as a RUSE to get protesters to cause a commotion. And if some call for 'help' was allegedly made, who the hell are WE, as common citizens with NO knowledge of national security protocol, make a judgment as to why a large mitilary presense wasn't dispatched immediately? Maybe something more ominous was being planned or undertaken and the terrorists were using this small scale attack as a distraction from the real threat ELSEWHERE where military presense was needed more? Some of you need to put your white hoods back on and keep your damn racist rhetoric to yourselves. I'm sorry you were in a COMA during 2001-2008 but the rest of us WERE NOT. She believes the death of the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans was not due to any breaches in protocol, pointing instead to the “fog of war” created by chaotic situations like the attack on the Benghazi consulate. In a move that is markedly different from the actions of some in the Republican Party, Rice said the emails show that America’s diplomats are serving in some very dangerous places around the world. “You can’t simply keep your diplomats in a bunker,” she said. “They have to get out and do their work.”
She said the State Department had procedures in place to handle security crises,  and that Congress and the State Department panel will examine if the appropriate rules were followed given the known threats in Benghazi. “I have no reason to believe they weren’t followed,” she added.
“The incredible costs of maintain diplomatic presences in Baghdad and Kabul take away from the resources at all other embassies worldwide,” says Scott Stewart, a retired Diplomatic Security Special Agent involved in hundreds of terrorism investigations.
"Lower profile people are suffering," he adds.

Obama claimed to be something different, transparency, honesty. He lied about the cost of Obama Care and he is lying about this incident. Sorry... he is a bad leader and a liar that is bankrupting our country.

If he was like the Republicans we would have started a war in Libya already.
He hasn't lied about the savings we will realize from "ObamaCare"
He hasn't lied about this incident.
Sorry, you haven't a clue about which you speak.

Mike, did you forget that Libya IS Obama's war? The Republican's were against going into Libya, citing that it was still not sure if groups with terrorist ties were among the rebels. As it turns out, they were; and the weapons we supplied were turned against us!!! Obama has stated that he did not have the intelligence that there was a threat to the consulate, yet there is now evidence being uncovered that shows that several requests were made for security both before the attack and for military assistance afterwards. If Obama is not lying, the only other possibility is that he and his administration were incompetent!

Sorry that you ignore the facts, it is typical of a blind Obama follower. Independents, please be objective and research the facts before you vote! Don't listen to blind followers of Romney or Obama. I am an independent and have made my choice becuase I can't stomach any more taxes, deficits and bad leadership. Having an incumbent say "Forward" when everything is getting worse is the best statement of the misleading ways of Obama and his administration.

I am talking about the same 9/11 everyone else is talking about, Mike. Don't be so facetious! There is a big difference from knowing the exact location of terrorist activity right before the day we need to be on our highest alert, and not having any idea when and where an attack will take place. Also, this far along after the first 9/11 we were already bombing the terrorists in Afghanistan.

How come so many people are believing the administration's position that they didn't turn down the request for help. If someone asks you for help and you don't help them it means you said no, even if you didn't actually "say" no. The fact is that no-one was sent to help them despite desperate requests for over 6 hrs.!

Absolutely sickening that these lives may have been saved had this administration provided the protection long before the six hours they were begging for it. Unfortunately, it would've proved Al Quaida is not on the run. Sad statement for this administration. Nixon resigned for far less.

Who sent UN ambassador Susan Rice out to the media to blame Benghazi attacks on a crude disgusting video?
You would think that the answer to this simple question wouldn't require a 7 week "investigation".

"Following Hurricane Katrina seven years ago, FEMA became a national punching bag, ridiculed for its slow and cumbersome response to the disaster along the Gulf Coast.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy this week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and its administrator W. Craig Fugate are garnering more positive reviews from public officials in northeastern states hit by the superstorm, as well as from disaster-management experts. 'The president has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA,' New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said Tuesday on NBC’s 'Today' show."

David
Thanks for the links D.V.
As we see real hero's at work helping those in need in this time of national
disaster: firefighters, the National Guard, policemen, the red cross ect. The story
of the nurses carrying infants from the powerless hospital to safety was particularly touching.
It is also important to understand what the federal government is capable of
when it is in the right hands.
After President Obama named Craig Fugate
to lead FEMA [Federal Emergency Management Agency] that agency has been
turned upside down. Under the leadership of Fugate, FEMA has responded
professionally and admirably to disasters from the floods in the south, to the devastating killer tornados, to Hurricane Irene, and now Hurricane Sandy. Fugate came in to the job with a long and proven résumé in disaster preparation. Compare that to the nightmare Michael Brown [who was a horse trainer!] and the results of that FEMA during Katrina! Craig Fugate really is doing "one heck of a job"!!!!!!!!!!! Craig Fugate and the revitalized FEMA is just one more DARNED GOOD REASON TO VOTE FOR BARRACK OBAMA

Benghazi blunder: Obama unworthy commander-in-chief

U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens and three other Americans died in a well-planned military assault on their diplomatic mission in Benghazi seven weeks ago, the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. So why are details surfacing, piecemeal, only now?

The Obama administration sat by doing nothing for seven hours that night, ignoring calls to dispatch help from our bases in Italy, less than two hours away. It has spent the past seven weeks stretching the story out, engaging in misdirection and deception involving supposed indigenous outrage over an obscure anti-Muslim video, confident that with the aid of a docile press corps this infamous climax to four years of misguided foreign policy can be swept under the rug, at least until after Tuesday's election
