Veteran's Story: From Rape to PTSD to Depression to Recovery

WMUR highlights the story of 20-year Army veteran Judy Atwood-Bell in context of new statistics on military sex abuse.

Judy Atwood-Bell was 17 when she enlisted in the Army. She was 19 when she was raped. After 20 years in the military – and even more years of silence over her ordeal – today she is able to tell her story, in the hope that things are changing within the military, from the inside out.

Atwood-Bell, of Hudson, was featured on WMUR in a piece that dovetailed off the news that U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte is co-sponsoring a bill introduced May 7, the Combating Military Sexual Assault (MSA) Act of 2013, which aims to reduce sexual assaults within the military and help the victims of this crime.

You can read Atwood-Bell's story here on WMUR.
