I have always heard that the general area of Nashua we call Railroad Square and along the riverbank there was once a sacred or otherwise significant Native American parcel in the area previous to the first European settlers to the area. Is this even remotely true, and, if not, what is the origin of that piece of regional fiction.

What is going into the Market Basket plaza on Amherst Street in the location where Sears Essentials used to be? I've seen the construction happening there for awhile now, but not a sign saying what is going in yet. I feel like I missed an announcement somewhere along the way?

I've been "told" (friend of a friend, so no firm proof) that Marketbasket is fitting up the old Sears/KMart space as a new Marketbasket grocery store. When it's done, they will move to the new space and renovate their old space into a different use.
They feel (and I tend to agree) that this a better strategy than renovating the store in-place, along with the attendant months of disruption and customer inconveniences.

Why does Market Basket allow their employees to smoke near the entrance to that store ? It's annoying enough to have to walk past that, but knowing that people who are handling my food are reeking of smoke is disgusting. The managers say it won't happen again, but it always does.
