New Live comedy night should be Dyn-o-myte.

NASHUA - For the first time ever, Chunky's will host a LIVE comedy night in theater at the Chunky's in Nashua.  On Friday, May 10 at 9 p.m. Jimmie "JJ" Walker, one of the legends of comedy, and star of '70s hit sit-com “Good Times,” will perform in person at Chunky’s.  “The idea of hosting live comedy in our theater has always intrigued us,” said Michael Mannetta, Marketing Director of Chunky’s. “And when Headliners Comedy Club came to us with well-known comedian Jimmie Walker, it was time to give it a shot”. Chunky’s hopes this is the start of a successful new program. “It’s exciting to offer fans of Chunky’s an alternate way to enjoy the food, drink and comfort of our unique theaters,” says Mannetta. “It’s going to be a great night and …

Chunky's has several theaters inside so I'm confident that Jimmie will not be telling jokes and annoying patrons inside the showing of "Gatsby."   more ›

Top Hotel Movie Rental is Playing Tonight at Nashua Library

You don't have to rent a room to see 'Zero Dark Thirty.'

Oscar-nominated movies were a huge draw for hotel guests renting rooms across the U.S. in March, according to USA Today's Top 10 "Most Rented Hollywood Movies in Hotel Rooms" list. I know. It's a list you probably don't think about too often. Anyway, why this is particulary relevant to you today is that the No. 1-rented movie in March was "Zero Dark Thirty," which earned five Oscar nominations, and which just happens to be showing April 9 (tonight) at the Nashua Public Library, free of charge. Show starts at 6 p.m. and is made possible by Friends of the Nashua Library. In a sentence, "Zero Dark" is about an elite team of intelligence and military operatives, working in secret across the globe, devoted to a single goal: to find and …

NH Jazz: New Location, Same Great Musical Interlude

Shifting gears to keep bringing great music to Nashua.

Last week Studio 99 owner Elise MacDonald announced that after more than four years, she had to make the difficult decision to close up shop on her open space music venue on Factory Street. Not for lack of great music, or dedicated music lovers. And so, in hope that the music will go on, Gillian Gual Hinkle, Executive Director of the Nashua Community Music School has announed that, for now, the monthly jazz performances, NH Jazz Presents, formerly a Studio 99 featured event, will move to a new location – the Nashua Community Music School, 5 Pine St. Ext., starting Saturday, March 23 at 8 p.m. Come out and support the music of the Jason Palmer Quintet. Tickets are $10 General Admission / $5 Students. Student means ANY student. This includes…

Grab a Seat for August Watters at Riverwalk Café

Whether it's new seating or an incredible musical moment, there's always something new at Riverwalk.

Steve Ruddock is always changing it up at his Riverwalk Café & Coffeehouse, adding a menu item, a new coffee brew, or just reconfiguring the furniture. Last week he added a window sill counter with high-boy seating perfect for people watchers who don't want to hog a table for two. This weekend, he will welcome August Watters, a mandolin virtuoso and accomplished musician, for an eclectic musical mix. This is exactly the kind of vibe that puts the "coffeehouse" in Riverwalk Cafe & Coffeehouse, a place where the music is unplugged and the atmosphere is intimate and engaged. Watters has a musical pedigree that lifts him above and beyond the typical starving artist list – he's a Berklee College of Music grad who returned to teach. But what he …

Photo of the Day

Life Imitates Art at Nashua Library

Couldn't resist this photo opportunity outside the library on a breezy Thursday morning.

As I was dashing into the Nashua Library to recharge my official City Parking Card (only in $5 increments, in anticipation of the new parking pay stations) I had to stop and snap a quick photo of Drew, 2, who was intently reading, along with the figures on the familiar "Children Reading" statue by Lloyd Lillie. "He does this quite often," said Drew's mom, Tracy, who patiently waited for her 2-year-old to flip through his brother's copy of "Ghosts in Fourth Grade."

'Oz: The Great and Powerful' Opens at Chunky's

You can watch the 'Oz' prequel over dinner and a bucket of beer.

"Oz: The Great and Powerful," opens today at Chunky's Cinema Pub. If like me you've been a James Franco fan since "Freaks and Geeks," then you may also be looking forward to seeing this prequel to the more familiar "Wizard of Oz," story line. Link here for show times.
