If you are a veteran of one of the following conflicts you are eligible to join the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  All you need is a copy of your DD 214 or other proof of this service:

World War II

Korea (up to and including the present)

Vietnam

Granada

Panama

Desert Storm

Iraqi Freedom

Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan)

Other smaller operations from the end of World War II to the present.
