Block Party Weekend: Nashua Celebrates Nashua

Organizers hope Nashua's Citywide Block Party becomes an annual celebration of people, neighborhoods and community.

Three hours, times four parties, plus hundreds of guests, multiplied by one big idea, equals an unprecedented party in the city of Nashua.

The cause? Unlike many organized events held to raise money to stamp out a disease, or raise awareness for one thing or another, this was an exercise in pure community spirit.

It's been a tough year for the city, which has seen a spike in violent crime, break-ins, armed robberies –  and even some scandal – marring the disruptive downtown beautification project.

Four locations around the city were selected as host sites for Nashua Block Party, the idea being that each neighborhood would come together and "rock the block" by celebrating the day right where they live – including free food, music, games and other activities.

This event, which organizers hope will become an annual affair, was brought to you by:

  • Chris Williams of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce
  • Michelle Ducie of Neighborworks of Southern NH
  • Aldermen Sheehan, Vitale, and Melizzi-Golja
  • Shaun Nelson of the Police Athletic League
