BAE Workers Set For 'Second to None' Rally Today

A show of bipartisan support from NH's delegation is planned for the rally outside BAE Systems.

BAE Systems, in conjunction with the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA), will host an employee rally today at 11:30 a.m. to highlight the importance of the defense and aerospace industry to the U.S. economy and national security.

Hundreds of BAE Systems employees will join Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Kelly Ayotte, among other officials at the event, focused on concerns about reduction in defense spending, referred to as sequestration.

According to a recent economic impact analysis conducted by economist Dr. Stephen Fuller of George Mason University, New Hampshire could lose more than 3,600 defense-related jobs if the sequestration mandated by the Budget Control Act is triggered.

BAE Systems is a global defense, aerospace and security company that delivers a full range of products and services for air, land and naval forces, as well as advanced electronics, security, information technology solutions and support services. The company employs more than 35,000 workers in the U.S., including approximately 4,500 employees in the New Hampshire area who develop and produce cutting-edge technologies that enable our warfighters to complete their missions safely and effectively.

In addition to Shaheen and Ayotte, U.S. Reps. Charlie Bass and Frank Guinta will be in attendance, along with Fred Downey, VP of National Security, AIA, and Dan Gobel, President of BAE Systems Electronic Solutions.

I doubt Sequestration will actually take effect. 53% of Americans think it should. When Republicans,Democtrats and the President signed the agreement it's automatic cuts to across the board CUTS ... Including lay offs / cuts to sub contractors like BAE .... Fear not it won't happen... Besides you can always apply for food stamps.... How dose that feel. Thank your Republican friends for not negotiating in Good faith during the process, besides it's refreshing for BAE to be subjected to this for a change.

How is it refreshing to see people to be layed off, lose their incomes, their homes, their pensions and retirement savings? Thanks to the current administration's policies we've been seeing that for the last 3+ years.

Michael: What's unusual, of course, is to see the defense industry being subjected to the same sort of economic discipline that the Republicans want to force on everyone else. And suddenly, Republicans and their defense industry cronies are squealing like stuck pigs over this little bit of austerity.

Go ahead Atlant cut JOBS, One way or the other Democrats have not a clue about jobs. Well except Government Union Jobs.

One reason the jobs market is so dismal is that Republicans have ensured that State and Local governments have done massive lay-offs. Here's a small part of what Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize-winning economist has to say about that today in his column entitled "Obstruct and Exploit": http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/10/opinion/krugman-obstruct-and-exploit.html?hp > This is classic “weaponized Keynesianism” — the claim that government > spending can’t create jobs unless the money goes to defense contractors, > in which case it’s the lifeblood of the economy. And no, it doesn’t make > any sense. Stop making excuses for the Republican plans to torpedo our economy so that they can win a couple of elections.

All that Obama has done is hire Government Workers. Obama is a failure in the creation of PRIVATE SECTOR JOBS. He has no clue.

There's someone who is clueless in this discussion, but I don't think it's either President Obama or myself. You're the one who's advocating that the patient try to cure themselves by taking a massive dose of the same poison that is already killing them.

We must continue to fund this stimulus program? Is that what we are arguing here?
Atlant September 11, 2012 at 01:21 AM
Actually, I don't get any e-mails from Democratic Headquarters. Unlike some folks here who obviously just regurgitate the day's talking points, except for direct, attributed quotes, I write every word I post.

Amazing, isn't it?
