Dems Mock Kelly Ayotte over #FriedDoe Tweet

They quickly seized on the U.S. Senator's social media misspelling on Saturday.

Just call it the great #FriedDoe incident of 2013.

It all started with an innocent Tweet by U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) from the Deerfield Fair, a 137-year-old New Hampshire institution.

"Watching horse show at Deerfield Fair with my family. Fair is packed + we already had fried doe!" Ayotte Tweeted at 4:22 p.m. Saturday.

It didn't take long for New Hampshire Democrats to notice the Tweet and start poking fun at Ayotte.

"Beat this, Sarah Palin," Tweeted BlueHampshire.com cofounder Dean Barker just a few minutes later, along with a picture of Ayotte's #FriedDoe Tweet.

Barker soon followed that up with another Tweet: "Somewhere Scott Brown is furiously Googling New Hampshirey ways to cook deer, just in case. #FriedDoe #NHpolitics" It was a reference to Brown's dalliance with a possible run for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire, where he owns a summer home.

New Hampshire Democratic Party Chairman Raymond Buckley fired off his own Tweet a couple of hours later: "@kellyayottte sing along: 'Doe, a deer, a female deer! Ray, a drop of golden sun!...'"

Harrell Kirstein, New Hampshire Democratic Party spokesman, also joined in. "RIP Bambi," he Tweeted at 8:06 p.m.

In Ayotte's defense, though, the words on the fried dough vendor booths at fairs and even at Hampton Beach do frequently use incorrect spellings like "Fry Doe."

At least one member of the Twitterverse – @sw0mp_d0nk3y – came to Ayotte's defense on Saturday.

"LOL since when is there spelling test on twitter?! Space is premium:)," he said.
