Unofficial Results for Ward 8: Andrade by Three Votes

Carl Andrade is the unofficial winner of the Democratic primary, by three votes.

After a long day of campaigning, it all came down to three votes in Ward 8 – Carl Andrade is the unofficial winner of the Democratic primary by three votes, winning 170 to 167.

His opponent, Latha Mangipudi, will likely contact the Secretary of State for a recount, said City Clerk Paul Bergeron.

"I'm not sure what the calendar is, but Latha asked me about the process for a recount, and I told her she needs to request one from the Secretary of State," said Bergeron.

Republican Peter Silva received 141 votes, plus 1 from the Democratic ballots.

"It was a very good turnout for a special election," Bergeron said. "In speaking to Peter this morning, he realized that someone could mount a write-in campaign for his party's nomination, and if he was just laying back and assuming he had the race won, it could have worked against him, so he worked hard to get the vote out."

Official results will be released by the Secretary of State at a later time, Bergeron said.

Including write-ins and excluding disqualified ballots, the total turnout was less than 500, much better than anticipated, Bergeron said.
