John McGranahan Jr., 64: Devoted Husband, Dad; Golfer, Soup Kitchen Volunteer

Services are Jan. 7 at Farwell Funeral Home.

John F. McGranahan Jr., 64, of Hudson, formerly of Nashua and Manchester, died unexpectedly Friday morning, January 3, 2014 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.

A native of Manchester, John was born on October 21, 1949, son of the late John F. and Claire G. (Ravenelle) McGranahan. Educated in Manchester schools, John was a graduate of Bishop Bradley High School Class of 1967 and furthered his education at Saint Anselm College. Mr. McGranahan owned and operated Harris Trophy and Copy Center in Manchester for the past 16 years. He had previously worked as manager of Rich's department stores. John was a devoted and loving husband and father and loved his family and friends.

A communicant of St. Kathyrn Church in Hudson, John was a member and Past Exalted Ruler of Nashua Lodge #720, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks and served as State Vice President for three years. In his leisure time, John was an avid golfer and was a fan of the New England Sports teams.

Members of his family include his wife, Jean A. (Rigdon) McGranahan, with whom he has shared 26 wonderful years together; his son, Kyle J. McGranahan of Hudson; a sister-in-law and her husband Beth and Lindy McNutt of Street, MD; a brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Rhonda Rigdon of Whaleyville, MD; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Smith, Neil McNutt, Whitney McNutt and Pasha Rigdon; many cousins including, Lisa and Al Paradise, Claire Wooten, Charline and Jay Libby, Jackie and George Lawruk, Tom and Diane Tessier, Nancy and Richard Turcotte, Phil and Marge McGranahan, Eileen and Lenny Rizzuto and Mary Sue McGranahan; and many close friends.

Calling hours will be held at the Farwell Funeral Home, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Tuesday, January 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Kathryn Church, 4 Dracut Road in Hudson, Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson.
