No one was injured in a fire Sunday night at an apartment building at 44 Williams St.
Fire officials dispatched Engine 4, Engine 2 (Lake Street), and Ladder 2 (Lake Street) just before 11 p.m. on Nov. 25 to a reported building fire. Engine 4 arrived first to find heavy fire coming from the rear of the 2nd floor of the building.
The fire was declared under control within 20 minutes of arrival on scene. Damage to the fire building was limited to about half of the second floor and attic above this space. Fire also did damage to the adjoining property at 42 Williams Street.
Although no injuries were reported, three pet birds were safely removed from the second-floor apartment by firefighters. The three occupants of the apartment were displaced for the night, but were able to stay with family or friends and didn't require emergency placement through the Red Cross
The fire remains under investigation by the city fire marshal's office.
