A Nashua man was held on $50,000 cash bail following a probable cause hearing Sept. 16, charging him with assaulting his pregnant 16-year-old girlfriend on two different occasions, including kicking her in the stomach more than once.
Devonta Soto, 20, of 7 Forge Drive, Nashua, was arrested Sept. 13 on an outstanding warrant for domestic violence: second degree assault, a class B felony, after the girl sought medical attention July 30 for stomach pains following the assault.
A subsequent investigation by the Youth Services Division revealed that Soto was the person responsible for the assault. He was charged with:
- 2 counts of Domestic Violence: Second Degree Assault, Class B Felony
- Domestic Violence: Criminal Restraint, Class B Felony
- Felonious Sexual Assault, Class B Felony
- Domestic Violence: Criminal Mischief, Class A Misdemeanor
- 8 counts of Domestic Violence: Simple Assault, Class A Misdemeanor.
Soto also reportedly smashed the victim's cell phone when the two met on July 29, near Fairgrounds Middle School, after Soto accused the victim of cheating on him. In an altercation over the phone, the victim told police Soto accidentally hit her in the abdomen, causing pains, which is when she went to the hospital for an exam.
The victim sustained bruising across her abdomen, including a large bruise on her lower abdomen due to a hard kick. The hospital determined no injury to the fetus following medical examination.
The sexual assault charges are the result of the suspect reportedly engaging in sexual relations with the victim when she was 15 years of age.
According to court documents, SotoA Class B felony is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment, exclusive of fines. A Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year imprisonment, exclusive of fines. Soto is being held on $75,000.00 cash bail pending arraignment in the 9th Circuit Nashua District Division Court on September 16, 2013.
