Bad Behavior Leads to Arrest, Persists in Custody

Mass. man faces multiple charges, including felony for breaking sprinklers.

Peter Powers, 21, of 1 Eagle’s Nest, Chelmsford, Mass., was arrested March 8,  initially for causing a ruckus at the Radisson Hotel. However, his rap sheet grew once in police custody.

Powers is charged with: Unlawful Interference With Fire Apparatus, a Class B Felony, two counts of Disorderly Conduct, Class A Misdemeanors, and three counts of Simple Assault on a Police Officer, Class A Misdemeanors.

At approximated 8 p.m. Nashua Police were called to the Radisson Hotel, 11 Tara Blvd.,  for a disorderly subject. Hotel employees told police that Powers was allegedly intoxicated and causing a scene. Police arrived to observe Powers allegedly yelling and swearing in the hotel lobby. Despite a warning to stop, he continued and was subsequently taken into police custody.

In the course of the arrest, Powers assaulted several officers by kicking them and also spitting on them.

Once Powers was brought to the Nashua Police Department for processing, he tampered with the fire sprinkler system in his holding cell and caused it to malfunction, flooding the cell area and activating the alarm for which he was charged with Unlawful Interference with a fire apparatus, a Class B Felony.

"This kind of thing rarely happens, but it's happened twice in one week," said Lt. Michael Moushegian, referring to the , who also caused significant damage while in police custody, including tampering with the sprinklers inside his holding cell.

A Class B Felony is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment, exclusive of fines. A Class A Misdemeanor is punishable by up to one year in jail, exclusive of fines. Powers was held at the Nashua Police Department on $2,500 cash bail pending his arraignment  in Nashua District Court.
