Man Charged for Assault With Sunscreen in Road Rage Incident

Nashua man facing simple assault charge for actions on Route 101A in Merrimack earlier this month.

A case of road rage that involved a Nashua man who allegedly exited his car at a stoplight in Merrimack and squirted sunscreen on the driver of the car behind him has resulted in his arrest almost two weeks later.

William Farrell Jr., 52, of 5 Tanglewood Drive, Nashua, turned himself in to Merrimack Police on a warrant for simple assault, a charge stemming from an incident reported on May 3.

Police say they received a 911 call on Friday, May 3, from a motorist who said she was the victim of a road rage incident that began when she honked her horn to the vehicle in front of her in an attempt to prompt him to move after a light turned from red to green in Nashua on Route 101A.

As she and the vehicle proceeded down 101A toward Merrimack, the vehicle in front of her kept slamming on his brakes as they traveled, the woman told police.

When both cars were caught at the red light at the intersection with Continental Boulevard, the woman told police the man got out of his car and approached hers "and squirted a brownish substance from a tube on her vehicle and into the open drivers window striking the victim in the hair (and) face."

He then returned to his car and left the scene by turning into a parking lot. Police say when they came to investigate, they determined the substance to be sun tan lotion and they determined the operator of the car to be Farrell.

He turned himself in on May 15, and was released on $1,500 personal recognizance bail. He is  scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court, District Division, in Merrimack on June 4.
