Mistrial Declared Weeks After Guilty Verdict

Angel Santos was convicted in July for a stabbing that took place during a 2010 home invasion. Last week, a Superior Court judge reversed the conviction in a mistrial, and a juror now faces criminal investigation.

A Nashua man is free following a conviction that was overturned due to a mistrial, The Associated Press is reporting.

Angel Santos, 21, was convicted in July of first-degree assault for a stabbing incident in which Santos stabbed a friend of a drug dealer in a September 2010 home invasion.

According to Hillsborough County Attorney Dennis Hogan, several weeks after the conviction, Santos' lawyer asked a judge to bring back the jurors for questioning, citing alleged misconduct.

Superior Court Judge Jacalyn Colburn declared a mistrial following two days of hearings last week, after a juror disregarded routine instructions not to do independent research on the case.
