Nashua Mom Charged With Assaulting Son, 2

Unique Gould, 21, is in Valley Street Jail. Her son is hospitalized and clinging to life.

A Nashua woman was arrested April 26, charged by Nashua Police with first-degree assault of her toddler son, for allegedly "striking him in the head," and causing a serious brain injury, the Nashua Telegraph reports.

Unique S. Gould, 21, of 8 Ash Court, Nashua, remains in Valley Street Jail, held on $100,000 cash bail, Nashua Police Capt. George McCarthy confirmed Tuesday. McCarthy also confirmed the boy remains hospitalized in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital following surgery to stop bleeding on his brain.

Nashua Police Lt. Francis Sullivan said no other information, including a mug shot of Gould, would be released at this time.

"It's an open and active investigation. In a case like this we continue to investigate, even after an arrest," Sullivan said.

Based on court documents obtained by the Telegraph, police interviewed Gould Friday after the boy was taken by ambulance to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center when his mother could not wake him. Gould admitted to police striking her son repeatedly Thursday, with her hand on his buttocks and head. She also told police she "blacked out" at some point while hitting him.
