Rollovers, Spinouts, and Crashes Across NH

Post-Christmas Day storm keeps state troopers, wreckers, and EMTs busy in Concord and elsewhere.

A light snowstorm that started around 8 a.m. on Dec. 26, and brought a number of inches of the white stuff in parts of the state kept emergency personnel busy on the day after Christmas.

New Hampshire State Troopers, wreckers, and fire and rescue teams were called to SUV rollovers, sedan spinouts, and multi-car crashes on Granite State highways all morning and into the early afternoon.

The majority of accidents started around 11 a.m. as drivers, many heading north from Massachusetts or south from the mountains began to drive on lightly covered highways. The snow on the roads quickly froze over. Accidents were reported from Nashua highways north, keeping troopers busy.

Several reports of accidents up and down the Everett Turnpike causing slowdowns and delays were coming from state police.

Patch readers are reporting that they've passed numerous accidents on the F.E. Everett Turnpike. A report around noon came in of a rollover in the area of Exit 10 with entrapment, including an infant in the vehicle. Readers say there are cars off the road and other accidents dotting the highway. Emergency vehicles have been up and down Daniel Webster Highway all morning and afternoon, others said.

At around 11:30 a.m., troopers reported parts of I-89 closed to traffic due to a number of accidents and spinouts in Hopkinton, Contoocook, and Warner.

At just before noon, first responders reported multi-car crashes on both the north and south sides of I-93, between Exit 16 and Exit 17 in Concord that rendered both sides of the highway into parking lots for a short period of time. Others reported accidents on I-93N in Concord too

At one point after noontime, a dispatcher remarked over the scanner that there weren’t enough police to send out to all the accidents.

A little past 1 p.m., a tractor-trailer jackknifed in Hopkinton on I-89 south. An hour later, state police said the highway would be closed from Exit 5 south for the foreseeable future.

At around 1:30 p.m., dispatchers were still trying to get troopers to accidents that had been waiting for more than an hour for emergency responders to get to the crashes.

Weather forecasters expect the snowstorm to taper off around dinnertime and will drop about three to four inches of snow around the state, when the storm finishes. More snow and rain is expected during the weekend.
