In a statement posted by Davis on the Boston Police website, BPDNews.com, Davis acknowledged his son's arrest:

“Like many families that struggle with substance abuse, we are reaching out to experts to get Philip the help he needs,” the commissioner said in a statement. “Jane and I love our son very much and are relieved that he has decided to seek treatment. This sudden and public challenge is the most difficult issue we have dealt with as a family, but we pray that Philip will persevere and overcome this setback. We are thankful that no one has been hurt in this situation.”

On Feb. 7 it was reported that Phillip Davis had gotten a ride home from Boston Garden by a police officer who encountered him leaving the venue, apparently under the influence of alcohol, and too impaired to drive. The question of preferential treatment was raised following that incident.

Davis and the five minors were all taken to Plymouth Police Department for processing and later released. They will be appearing in the Plymouth District Court on Feb. 28, 2013 for arraignment.
