Illegal Immigration Protest at Nashua's Exit 6

Local activists participated in the "National Day of Protesting Against Immigration, Reform, Amnesty & Border Surge."

A nationwide protest against illegal immigration included liberty activists waving signs and slogans July 19 at the Exit 6 overpass on the Everett Turnpike in Nashua.

Kathy Peterson of Nashua says as many as 60 people from New Hampshire and Massachusetts participated in the "National Day of Protesting Against Immigration, Reform, Amnesty & Border Surge."

The immigration protests were planned in response to reports that about 50,000 undocumented children from Central America have crossed the border since October and overwhelmed U.S. immigration officials.

President Obama has proposed a four-point plan to address the crisis that involves strengthening border security, stream-lining legal immigration, earned citizenship and cracking down on employers who hire undocumented workers. Obama is seeking nearly $4 billion from Congress to handle the crisis, but House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, has said the spending request has little chance of passing the House at this point, CBSNews reports.
