Are You Ready for the NH Rebellion?

Could the pathway to changing American politics begin in NH?

A group with determination, grit – and some serious walking shoes – are about to arrive in Nashua after a 185-mile walk from Dixville Notch. When they arrive at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 58 Lowell St., Friday just after noon, they will get ready to celebrate the spirit of their inspirational and sentimental leader, Doris Granny D Haddock, a New Hampshire original.

The group, NH Rebellion, believes the citizens of this state have what it takes to change the 2016 Presidential Election.

It is the first of three annual walks planned between now and the 2016 Presidential Primary, when New Hampshire will again take center stage as campaign central for the next presidential hopefuls.

Along the way, the group hopes to recruit citizens in New Hampshire to do one critical thing: guarantee that at every presidential event between now and the 2016 primary, every candidate gets asked at least one pivotal question:
“How will YOU end this system of corruption in Washington?”

They are also pushing for passage of HCR 10, a resolution to to allow a change to the U.S. Constitution that, in some form, could change the way campaigns are funded.

The NH Rebellion's mobile mission officially launched January 11 from politically symbolic Dixville Notch – where voters are historically the first in the nation to cast their ballots.  The group has been walking ever since, bound for Nashua where they will celebrate Granny D’s birthday at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 3:30 p.m.

Leading the charge for fundamental reform is Harvard law professor and political activist Lawrence Lessig, who will speak Friday during the Nashua event.

At 88 years of age "Granny D" walked across the country calling for campaign finance reform, NH Rebellion has organized to continue her mission – which was to get money out of politics – something they believe is at the root of America's problems.

The group acknowledges there is not a single, easy answer to this problem. But they do know there is power in numbers, and politicians will listen – especially in a state like New Hampshire, where politics is as engrained in the landscape as granite.

Guest Speakers for the Jan 24 event include:

  • Harvard Law Professor and Activist, Lawrence Lessig
  • Pulitzer Prize Winning Author and Documentary Producer Hedrick Smith
  • Former Lousiana Governor and Presidential Candidate Buddy Roemer
  • New Hampshire Senatorial Candidate Jim Rubens
  • Governor Maggie Hassan's Proclamation to be read at the event.
