Scott Brown Announces Formation of Exploratory Committee

The former Massachusetts Senator said he will be traveling the state of New Hampshire beginning on Saturday to meet with potential voters.

In a fiery speech in Nashua on Friday, Scott Brown formally announced that he has formed an exploratory committee "to prepare a run for Senate" in New Hampshire, and that he will be traveling the state beginning on Saturday to meet with potential voters.

"We have a lot of work ahead of us," Brown said. "But together we're going to make 2014 a great Republican year, in New Hampshire and across this great country.

"A big political wave is about to break in America," he said, "and the Obamacare Democrats are on the wrong side of that wave."

Brown touched on several subjects in his speech, including Obamacare and the division that exists within the Republican Party. He spoke of his infamous pickup truck, saying he's been driving around New Hampshire so much that it has almost 300,000 miles on it. It also has a "Live Free or Die" license plate, he noted.

He also took time to detail his New Hampshire roots, including the fact that his parents were living on Islington Street in Portsmouth when he was born, and that he used to spend time with his grandparents at Hampton Beach and Prescott Park during his childhood.

Brown said his wife Gail told him that if he really wants to make a difference, he needs to stop complaining and run for Senate in New Hampshire.

"So I'm announcing today that I've formed an exploratory committee to prepare a campaign for the United States Senate in New Hampshire," he said. "Starting tomorrow morning, for the next several weeks Gail and I will be traveling around this great state to introduce ourselves, to ask questions, to speak with everyone of every background – Republicans, independents, Democrats alike, and above all to listen and learn of all of your concerns. Because I do not know it all, unlike some people in Washington who think they do."

Brown announced in a news release issued just after his speech that Andy Leach, a former two-time executive director of the New Hampshire Republican Party, will organize his exploratory efforts as a senior adviser.

More details on his "Main Streets & Living Rooms” tour of New Hampshire are expected to be released shortly.

Brown was one of several big-name Republicans scheduled to speak at this weekend's Northeast Republican Leadership Conference at the Crowne Plaza in Nashua.
