Will this Holiday Set Tourism Records?

Visitors are projected to spend $131 million over the next five days.

The Fourth of July weekend could set records for New Hampshire's tourism industry, according to one economic forecast.

A projected 880,000 people will visit the state from July 3 to July 7 and will spend $131 million, according to the Institute for New Hampshire Studies.

"As Americans across the country celebrate Independence Day and the enduring concept of freedom that is our very core, thousands will flock to New Hampshire to enjoy our unmatched natural beauty, exciting outdoor recreational activities, high quality of life and tax-free shopping," Gov. Maggie Hassan said. "As our second largest industry, travel and tourism is critical to our economy, spurring economic growth and creating good jobs that can support a strong middle class. On behalf of the citizens of New Hampshire, I want to wish all of our out-of-state visitors a safe and happy Fourth of July, and we hope that you come back to visit us often."

The Institute for New Hampshire Studies projects most of the holiday visitors will come from New England and the Mid-Atlantic states. The state will also see higher levels of Canadian visitors, the institute reports.
