How is a 22% increase in the Gas Tax good for the Middle Class?

How does raising the cost of business in the weakest economy we've faced in decades "promote job growth"?

Last week, as New Hampshire citizen’s celebrated our Independence with cookouts and fireworks, The Democrat’s gas tax increase went into effect. The tax measure, which went into effect on last Tuesday, July 1st, raises the existing state tax on gasoline by 22%. A gasoline tax is particularly insidious in nature due to it’s ripple effect throughout our economy, not only does it raise the cost of getting to and from work (which most NH citizens know is plenty costly already), but it also has the potential to raise the cost of all goods which are transported into and throughout our state.

This new tax just underscores how out of touch liberals in Concord are with the hardworking citizens of New Hampshire. While our citizens struggle to cut costs and tighten their belts in an attempt to make ends meet in Gov. Hassan’s stagnant economy, Democrats like Sen. Peggy Gilmour have continuously found new and innovative ways to relocate more of your paycheck to Concord. On her website, Senator Gilmour touts her commitment to “[protect] the middle class” and “focus on initiatives that promote job growth…”, So how could she possibly support a bill which raises the costs of getting to and from work? How does raising the cost of business in the weakest economy we’ve faced in decades “promote job growth”? The simple answer is that it doesn’t. Senator Gilmour simply followed the liberal tax and spend party line without regard to the consequences to the people of district 12.

As your State Senator, I will truly represent your interests. I will focus on the problems facing the people of New Hampshire and District 12 with a constant eye to what is best for my constituents.
