Sen. Gilmour 0 for 4 on Important Issues.

On Important Issues, Gilmour bats 0 for 4

State Senator Peggy Gilmour seems nice enough. Unfortunately, she’s been just plain wrong on many of the most important issues of the session. Four prominent examples which come to mind;

1. The Gas Tax- How is a 23% increase in any tax good for the working class? Let alone a tax which is, by definition, regressive and raises the final cost of all goods shipped into or throughout New Hampshire.

2. Medicaid Expansion- A state level extension of Obamacare (which has been such a disaster at every turn) that leaves the state on the hook for 50,000 new medicaid recipients and diverts funds from those who need them most is bad for both our state’s economy and our most vulnerable citizens.

3. Buffer zones- The 1st amendment to the United States Constitution applies to all Americans in all areas. Sen. Gilmour disagrees. She was a vocal supporter of a measure to restrict free speech to certain ‘zones’, even as the U.S. Supreme Court ruled a similar law in massachusetts unconstitutional. Meaning that in addition to putting a muzzle on our free speech, Senator Gilmour voted to cost the state money to try and defend the unconstitutional law.

4. Spending- In 2010, NH Republicans worked hard to get our fiscal house in order, combing the budget, making the tough decisions necessary to get our fiscal house in order, and ultimately reducing spending by 11% and putting the state on the path to fiscal sanity. Sen. Gilmour voted to undo all of that. In the past two years, the Democrats have increased spending over 9%, and Sen. Gilmour voted for nearly every tax and spending increase that came through the state senate, irresponsibly remortgaging New Hampshire's future.

These four votes depict a legislator out of touch with her constituents. Senator Gilmour either doesn’t understand or doesn’t care about how her votes and her policy positions affect hardworking New Hampshire citizens. We need a State Senator who will go to Concord with the interests of their constituents at heart and fight passionately for those interests every day. If you vote for me, I will be that State Senator.

Hon. Kevin Avard

Republican for State Senate (Dist. 12)
