School Day Grows 12 Minutes

An extra 720 seconds will be added to Nashua's school day, starting May 5.

The school day in Nashua will grow by 12 minutes, effective May 5, when students and faculty return from vacation.

The Nashua Board of Education approved the change, also endorsed by the Nashua Teacher's Union, to put in stone June 20 as the last day of school for the 2013-2014 year, the district announced in a press release.

It helps the district make up one day of school lost to snow days this past winter. The district canceled six school days due to snow, which would have pushed the school year to June 23 to meet the 180 days of school required by state law.

The district notes that transportation and all after-school activities will be adjusted accordingly for the extra 12 minutes.

Mark Conrad, superintendent of schools, noted in an interview earlier this month that the district and Board of Education first considered the change because June 23 is so late in the year. June 23 is also a Monday.
