Heavy Snow, Sub-Zero Temps in Thursday Forecast

Winter storm update, at a glance:

New Year's Day - Partly sunny, with a high near 25. West wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph.
Tonight - Snow likely, mainly after 4am. Cloudy, with a low around 14. Calm wind becoming north around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
ThursdaySnow. High near 17. Wind chill values as low as -2. Northeast wind 7 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Thursday Night - Snow. Low around 4. Wind chill values as low as -14. Blustery, with a north wind 17 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches possible.
Friday - Snow likely, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy and cold, with a high near 9. Northwest wind 15 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around -8.
Saturday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 18.

Winter storm watch remains in effect from late tonight through Friday morning for all of southern New England. Expect heavy snow and dangerously cold wind chills. Considerable blowing and drifting snow with near blizzard Conditions possible at times along the eastern Massachusetts coast resulting in whiteout conditions.
Snow accumulation of 6 to 12 inches across most of the region. Higher amounts of 8 to 14 inches are expected along eastern Massachusetts with perhaps even locally higher amounts.  Areas of light snow will develop after midnight Jan. 1 and continue at times through Thursday. There may be a lull in the snow during the day Thursday, especially south of the Massachusetts Turnpike. The worst of the storm is expected to be Thursday night into early Friday with 1 to 2 inch per hour snowfall rates possible.
Travel may become Impossible.
A winter storm watch is issued for the potential of accumulating snow of 6 or more inches in a 12 hour period, or 8 or more Inches in a 24-hour period. Anyone traveling in the next 24 to 36 hours should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to modify travel plans should winter weather develop.
