Cookson Responds to Mailer Controversy

A mailer sent out by his campaign excluded the name of another at-large candidate for alderman.

On Sunday, Nashua Patch was informed by several readers of a mailer that was sent out by alderman-at-large candidate Mark Cookson that excluded Diane Sheehan's name on the ballot includes as one of the graphics on the mailer.

In an email to Nashua Patch on Sunday afternoon, Cookson said the exclusion of Sheehan was "unintentional." The full text of his email to Nashua Patch is included below:

This mailer is about is my record of service and tax fighting as well as my vision for the future of Nashua.

It was brought to our attention over the weekend there was an unintentional omission in the list of at-large candidates in a graphic on the back of the mailer. The ballot graphic provided to the mail vendor, by me, included all candidates. It is an issue which the mail vendor has taken full responsibility. It is unfortunate that this happened.

It has happened to many of us … the suggestion that we have done something intentionally when we did not. I welcome open debate and challengers in the democratic process and would never omit a candidate purposefully or intentionally.

Those who have worked with me know this to be true and I am confident all candidates would agree.

I continue to encourage open communication on the issues with those of us seeking office. My message is a vision for the future of Nashua and I look forward to continuing my conversations with voters about the issues facing our great City.

If it had been my intention to exclude a candidate name... it would have been all of them.

The ballot on this mailer was referenced as the main graphic. It is not.

The main graphic is the front of the mailer, of me and Alexandra, with an emphasis on the future of Nashua. See Attached
