Should you be elected, how will you connect with your constituents to learn more about issues they care most about?

In addition to simply returning phone calls and emails for the past two years I have visited more than a thousand people at their doorstep. I maintain a web page, a Facebook page for regular updates and a blog for extended explanations. I have also held two major ward meetings with over a hundred attendees total.

In your opinion, what are key issues affecting your Ward?

The residents of Ward 9 keep an eye on similar issues as most in the city, to get the most out of their tax dollars. Many are not happy to see spending on items they see as unnecessary. Ward 9 has it’s sections that are subject to flooding, roads which need extra maintenance, and localized traffic patterns that burden the residents patience.

Why are you running? New Hampshire has a tradition of participatory self-governance which is stronger than in most states. When I moved here nearly ten years ago the contrast from where I came from was evident and compelled me to get involved.

I like people. I like to be part of the group working together. I’ve found that as individuals our goals are in alignment far more often than it would seem based on the disagreement between the groups organized to achieve those goals. One of the main reasons for so much disagreement stems from the difficulty of communicating. Because I like people I listen to what they are saying and try to understand what they mean. That is necessary for me to properly represent them.

The current Nashua Board of Aldermen needs new leadership. The citizens of Nashua are not being represented fairly. I have found the non-partisan nature of city government to be entirely appropriate because what everyone has in common is a desire to be heard and a need to be represented. With careful thought and an ability to foresee the results of our actions I will provide that leadership.

Why should voters choose you over your opponents (what uniquely qualifies you to represent the public)?

I have the courage to ask the necessary, tough questions; but I do it in a style which is non-confrontational. I avoid attacks or lectures which are counter-productive to useful communication. My self-image does not rely on winning a vote on the Board of Aldermen and I do not personally benefit from the results; therefore, I am able to objectively evaluate the facts and arrive at a conclusion based on the merits of the proposal.

During your time served previously as an Alderman, how would you characterize your leadership approach? What will be your legacy to the city for having served?

Above all else I want to be remembered as being ethical. I remain independent to draw my own conclusions. Of course I am willing to work together as a team because the group can accomplish so much. Through it all, even if a person may disagree with my opinion, I hope they respect me for trying for the right reasons.
