Voters Guide: Jeffrey Cox Looking to Return to Ward 9 as Alderman

'I am very willing to do the work necessary to ensure I am doing the best possible job representing Ward 9.'

Name: Jeffrey T. Cox

Age:
53

How long have you resided in Nashua?
My wife Rebecca R. Cox an I have lived here for 27 years.

Your background/education:

I have 20 years in the retail food business, having served as a 7-Eleven District Manager and then as the owner of the 7-Eleven on 266 Main Dunstable Road for 10 years. University of Lowell for International Business Management.

Experience/Occupation:
United States Marine Corps - five year, 7-Eleven District Manager, 10 years; Bellevance Beverage Sales Rep, 8 years; and owner of the 7-Eleven on Main Dunstable for 10 years. My current employment is driver for Nashua Transit since September 2012.

Prior elected offices: Two terms as Alderman Ward 9 (2008-2011.)

Personal info and interests outside of politics: Married to Rebecca R. Cox for 27 years and we have three children, Brittanie, 24, Kristie, 21 and Timothy, 16. Outside of politics I enjoy spending time on our family's favorite activities such as camping and the beach, and following the Patriots and Red Sox.

Should you be elected, how will you connect with your constituents to learn more about issues they care most about?

In my four years as the Ward 9 Alderman I found that direct personal contact was very effective in dealing with individual constituent issues. Whether face-to-face or by phone/email, fully understanding the issue is the key to resolving the mater.

I am also a very strong believer in what might be known as "neighborhood issue meetings." A perfect example of this would be when a developer purchased a 3.2 acre property on New Searles Rd. I prepared an informational letter giving all the known details of the proposed development, and scheduled a meeting at New Searles School. Then my son and I hand delivered this information / announcement an the meeting was attended by more than 100 neighbors, and enabled us to make many changes to the project as a group.

In your opinion, what are key issues affecting your Ward?

I am very concerned about the constant loss of every piece of undeveloped farm property. This is a concern for many reasons, but the top three would be the loss of the green space, the impact on our school system, and finally, traffic congestion that is currently an issue inso many areas of our city. There is currently a 34 home development going in on a beautiful 30-plus acre property on the corner of Searles Road and Lamb Road that will make a major impact on all three areas of concern.

Why are you running?

To make sure that Ward 9 is represented by someone who is willing to do the work it takes to keep our city moving forward in a quality and responsible manner.

What should voters choose you over your opponent (what uniquely qualifies you to represent the public?)

I feel i am a person who works well with all parties that make up city government. I have very strong communication skills and as I listed above, I am very willing to do the work necessary to ensure I am doing the best possible job representing not only the residents of Ward 9, but those of the entire city.
