Voters Guide: Kathy Snyder for Ward 6 Alderman

'I care about the people and their ideas and thoughts. I care about the budget, and the future of Nashua.'

Name: Kathy Snyder

Age: 43

How long have you lived in Nashua? I was born in 1970 and lived in Hudson until I was 16 years old with my parents Joseph & Maureen Clough.  I made the “official” move to Nashua as an adult, 25 years ago, and  I have enjoyed living in Nashua ever since.

Education/background: I graduated from Tabernacle Christian School in 1988. After graduation I went to work for Adra Systems in Chelmsford, Mass.  I worked in the finance department for many years and resigned when I had children. During my employment at Adra Systems I pursued a finance degree at Hesser College.  I was derailed and instead of a finance degree, I went on to get my NH & MA Real Estate Broker’s License in 2002. I began my career at Harmony Real Estate and currently work at RE/MAX Properties in Nashua.  I served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Manchester/Nashua Board of Realtor’s and was the Chairperson for Community Services.

Should you be elected, how will you connect with your constituents to learn more about issues they care most about?

My goal to get elected is to meet as many people in Ward 6 as possible.   I am looking forward to going door to door to and introducing myself personally to the constituents living in Ward 6. I hope to sit down and really connect with people and listen to what people have to say so that I can make their issues my issues as well. I hope to be a true representative of their concerns for Ward 6.  I have created a Ward 6 Facebook fan page which will keep the constituents in Ward  6 up to date  about the latest issues, happenings and concerns in Nashua.  I want the page to provide the people of Ward 6 a platform, a voice, to get their concerns heard.  I hope to encourage an open dialogue with everyone in Ward 6.

Why are you running?

I am running for Ward 6 Alderman because I believe there needs to be a change. I want to inspire the folks in Ward 6 to take part in their community. I have lived in Ward 6 for 17 years and I have never felt my opinion mattered to anyone. I hope to inspire everyone to get to know each other, ask questions, share thoughts, opinions and make a difference in their community.

Why should voters choose you over your opponents (what uniquely qualifies you to represent the public)?

I have strong leadership skills and a desire for change, which I think makes me a an excellent candidate for Ward 6.  I care about the people and their ideas and thoughts.  I care about the budget, and the future of Nashua.  I am open-minded and ready to learn what it takes to run this great city.  I don’t have an “agenda” per se, but I  am very concerned  about the increased crime in the city.  As I understand it, the surge is caused by drug usage.  I think Nashua  resident could benefit from  more awareness of drug addiction and the problems associated with it.  I  believe that Nashua should invest in more resources to help with this increasing issue.  I care  deeply about the elderly and the cost of living. I worry for the elderly and how they are going to make ends meet.  Right now we have 55+ communities and assisted living  facilities that are only available at very high entry prices. These homes provide options to the elderly but leave a large number of people unable to afford their future.    I am concerned about tenancy issues such as  over-crowding, vacant landlords, and vacant foreclosed properties.   I think we need to work on providing better housing for all and working on making them accessible to all.

Feel free to include a summary statement or platform below if there are any other particular points you would like to relay to voters:

My hope is to bring forward an agenda that incorporates all of the thoughts , ideas and concerns for all the people in Ward 6 and I am very excited for the opportunity to do so.
